Improvements relating to thread protectors for protecting the screwed ends of rods

A protector for the screwed-end a of a steelrod d consists of a capnut 12, e.g. of a zinc diecasting-alloy, having a greater coefficient of thermal-expansion than steel. The nut has a screwed-part 13 adjacent the closed-end 11, and a flared-part 15 of greater internal-diameter, and bearing against a shoulder b on the rod. The thread-pitch p of the nut is slightly less than pitch p1 of the rod, so that when the nut is tightened, compression occurs in part 15 and the threads are wedged together over a small area 20. As rod d is heated, e.g. after painting, the area 20 increases and part 15 slides in contact with the shoulder-bevel g.
