[Also in Groups XXIV and XXX] Screwing.-Screwed shafts such as those for lifting-jacks are made by screwing an outer tubular casing, swaged or corrugated to form a uniform helix 2, to a tubular core 1. The union may be effected by soldering, spotwelding or by shrinking on and the helix is made from steel, brass, or similar metal whilst the core tube may be of steel or of light metal such as aluminium or magnesium or their alloys. The union extends over the whole length of the bottom 2a of the thread.
