A device for checking football pools comprises a pair of relatively movable members, one bearing the actual results of the selected matches and the other adapted to constitute a " plan " or reduced permutation having masking squares or perforations arranged in side by side columns, the number of masking squares or perforations in each column being a fixed proportion of the total number of matches selected, whereby on relative movement of the said member the matches other than those pertinent to a particular column are masked by the column, so that the total number of points obtained in each column may be readily determined. A back card 10 having turned over edges 12 to guide a front card 11 has sixteen squares arranged in a single column in which the actual results of sixteen selected matches are entered. The front card having thirty side by side columns each with eight perforations, is moved longitudinally in the guides to register each column in turn with the actual results. As shown in Fig. 6, the front card is circular and is pivoted at 32 to the backing card 30, the results being entered on the backing card through radial slots 34 in the front card 31 and the columns of perforations 35 being arranged diametrically. The backing card is provided with a pointer 36 which overlaps the front card and together with stops 37, 38 on the front card limit the movement of the front card relative to the back card to 180 degrees, thereby avoiding incorrect readings. In a third embodiment, the sixteen results are entered in a column on a transparent front card which slides in guides on a back card constructed in a similar fashion to the back card 10, the back card in the present embodiment having blocked out portions to form 30 columns each having eight blocked out squares and eight blank squares to constitute the reduced permutation. To facilitate entry of the results on the transparent front card, the back card is provided at one edge with a blank column of 16 guide lines.
