859,684. Heating steel strip by electromagnetic induction. GLYCO-METALLWERKE DAELEN & LOOS G.m.b.H. May 19, 1959, No. 16940/59. Class 39(3). [Also in Group XXII] When casting meta: alloys, e.g. copper-bronze on to steel-strip for bearings &c., the steel-strip is pre-heatedto about 1100‹C by passing it through an inductively-heated gas-tight glow-muffle wherein it is heated by radiation-heat as well as inductively. The strip 1, pulled by a tractive device 13, is shaped by rolls 2 to the cross-section shown in Fig. 2, is preheated to about 700‹C. in an induction-furnace 3, heated to about 1100‹C. in the muffle 4, has copper-bronze cast-on from a crucible 9, is cooled at 10, straightened at 11, and milled to the required thickness by a milling-machine 12. The furnaces 3, 4, are kept under a neutral or reducing-gas atmosphere. The muffle 4 comprises a heatresistant non-magnetic body-portion 7, e.g. of a chrome and nickel alloy, firebricks 5 and a water-cooled induction-coil 6.
