[Also in Group XXXVII] To reduce heat transfer between the sole plate 10 and the sheel 26 of a thermostaticallycontrolled electric iron, the shell engages notched protuberances 28 spaced round the edge of the plate, these protuberances also serving to fix the shell against lateral movement. An insulating handle 32 is secured to the shell 26 by a pair of hooks 42b carried by a guide bracket 42 secured to the handle, and by bolts 46, the space 48 between the handle and shell allowing rotatable adjustment of the upper part 62 of a cam follower 60, to vary the calibration of the control thermostat. The thermostatic switch 66, control cam 56 and the linkage connecting them are so arranged that the switch contacts 78, 79 will open when the handle or cam is removed, and will not be affected by warping of the sole plate 10. A compensating bimetal 96 is fitted.
