Diagnostic preparation for the determination of serum alkaline phosphatase

A dry preparation, for the determination of serum alkaline phosphatase, is an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of phenolphthalein phosphate, and a buffer adapted to maintain the serum pH in a range of from 9 to 11. A magnesium salt such as magnesium sulphate may be inserted in the composition to make sure that the magnesium concentration is sufficient to activate the enzyme. Buffers employed are the sodium salt of 5,5-diethyl barbituric acid, sodium carbonate, guanidine carbonate and tris-hydroxymethylaminomethane.
