863,978. Combine-harvesters. MASSEYFERGUSON (UNITED KINGDOM) Ltd. July 10, 1957 [July 11, 1956; Aug. 10, 1956 ; Feb. 8, 1957], Nos. 21421/56, 24515/56 and 4385/57. Class 6(3). In an arrangement for mounting a bulky implement, such as a combineharvester, on a tractor, the implement has a pair of laterally-spaced main mounting elements 30 (Fig. 7) for engagement with complementary elements 55 (Fig. 6) on one of the tractor rear half-axles, the implement being further provided with props 33, 34 to support it when detached from the tractor and with a jack 19 which is removable attachable to the front of the implement so that it can lift the implement about the rear props to enable the front prop 34 to be removed whereafter the jack lowers the implement to engage the front and rear elements on implement and tractor. The combine has a header 20 which is pivoted to the main body 21 by dismantlable brackets 22 so that the header is normally dismounted when the implement is to be lifted on to the tractor (Figs. 3 and 4). The jack is then moved from a bracket 18 to a bracket 17 and is attached to the header by a spring mounting. The header is thereafter adjustable about the pivots 22 by the jack. The main body 21 has three transverse tubes 25, 26, 27 the fore and aft of which receive spigots on the ends of the stands and the two rear ones of which may have extensions 74 (Fig. 7) to carry a bagging platform 70 (Figs. 1 and 7). The rear main mounting on the tractor (Fig. 6) comprises a pair of tubes 12, 47 secured together by bridge-plates 49 carried on a laterally-extended half-axle casing 48, the tube 12 having the elements 55 which are engaged by the channel-members 30 (Fig. 7) on the tube 26. The front mounting comprises a tube 61 carrying an upright beam 13 with a socket 14 at its upper end to receive the end 29 on a member 28 carried by the front tube 25 on the implement. A detachable clamp (not shown), secures the members 14, 29 together when engaged. To enable the tractor to be aligned with the implement before mounting, the stands are coupled together by beams 35, 36, the tractor being driven with its wheels in contact with the beam 35 (Fig. 1) to ensure correct lateral positioning. During tilting of the implement about the rear stand, a stay 41 (Figs. 3 and 7) is provided to prevent backward movement of the implement.
