Class 20(4) A composite beam or truss is formed from separate elements comprising; a pre-cast reinforced concrete compression component and a structural steel or precast prestressed concrete tension component, such compression and tension components being connected, in the case of a beam with a separate structural steel or reinforced concrete web component with or without similarly formed web stiffeners, and in the case of a truss with separate precast reinforced concrete struts and structural steel or precast prestressed concrete ties. The elements may be provided with cast in anchors 6, Fig. 4 carrying plates 8, 9 which can be welded together to connect separate elements. Steel shear studs 7 may be welded to the assemblies 6, 8 and 9. Alternatively the elements may be provided with embedded anchor bolts 10, 11, Fig. 5 which are engaged with steel angles 12 to connect separate elements.
