[Also in Group XXVI] A variable area propulsion nozzle comprising a number of bent flaps 1 pivoted to the jet pipe 4 at their upstream ends 3 and movable between flat lateral guiding partitions 2, is controlled by a regulator 8. The desired position of the flaps is selected by movement of the rod 9. This varies the load on the spring 12 which moves piston valve 13 to the right. Compressed air from the duct 14 then enters the chamber 6 through ducts 15. The movement of the flaps 1 in the closing direction causes the spring 17 to be loaded by the lever 16 so that the valve 13 moves to the left and cuts off further admission of compressed air.
