A rotary cutter drum for a longwall mineralmining machine consists of a number of annular, pick-carrying sections 13, 14, 15 positioned side by side and bolted together and supported in cantilever fashion from a short, driven shaft 4 projecting from the side of the machine by a hub assembly 5, 6 that is bolted to one of the end sections of the drum and is supported on and has a splined connection with the shaft 4. The ring portion 15 separating the flanges of each section is so constructed as to provide circumferentially spaced pockets in which the bolts and nuts of the means securing adjacent flanges together are adequately protected.
