A current converter comprising two threephase star-connected transformer secondary windings 11, 12 interconnected by an interphase choke 10 and supplying controllable discharge paths through anodes 1 ... 6 of a rectifying vessel 13, and in which a control signal comprising a combination of a sawtooth waveform and a direct voltage Ust is used to control a transistor amplifier device such as 41 to give pulses to fire the rectifying paths in the converter, and wherein variation of the direct voltage varies the instant of firing of the paths (similar to the disclosure in Specification 909,847) and wherein for each phase the sawtooth voltage is developed across pairs of capacitors 21, 22 and alternate half-cycles are utilized for producing pulses for anode paths in opposite star windings (e.g. anode paths 1 and 4), such a converter includes an arrangement to compensate for asymmetrical conditions in the two star windings by connecting in series with the capacitors 21, 22, resistors 27, 28, to which a single direct voltage is applied at terminals 39, 40. This voltage may be dependent on the difference in current between the two halves of the interphase transformer.
