摘要
Metals which are not completely miscible in the liquid state are separated by cooling successive layers of a molten mixture of the metals in the direction of the gravitational force on the mixture to freeze one of the metals and allow the other metal to drain into the lowest layer. The process is particularly applicable to the purification of Zn contaminated with Pb in which case the resultant ingot consists of Pb in the lowest layer and Zn in the remaining layers. The process may also be used for the removal of Pb from Zn alloys. A portion only of each layer may be cooled as above, the remainder of the melt being cooled as a whole so that the resultant ingot consists partly of pure and partly of impure material. The mould containing the molten material should be either of uniform cross-section or larger at the bottom than the top. The cooling may be effected by movable cooling elements, spraying a volatile liquid on the outside of the mould or internal cooling elements.ALSO:Metals which are not completely miscible in the liquid state are separated by cooling successive layers of a molten mixture of the metals in the direction of the gravitational force on the mixture to freeze one of the metals and allow the other metal to drain into the lowest layer.
