In fixing an anchor bolt 2, the tip of the bolt is secured in the bottom of the bolt-hole by a material 1 having a cementing action, and a portion of the bolt outwardly of the tip is fixed by a wedge 7 which assists the bolt to draw an anchor plate 11 against the rock face &c. A ring 9 connecting two expandable elements 8 has opposite grooves to receive the wedge 7, which engages screwthreads on the bolt. The cementing material may be piped under pressure into the bolt-hole, or introduced in the form of a cartridge having separate compartments for the constituents of the material. The cartridge is destroyed by the point of the bolt and the constituents mixed by rotation of the bolt as this is driven into the bore-hole until a flange 6 on the bolt engages the elements 8 and the plate 11 the rock-face. Further rotation draws the wedge 7 between the elements 8 and tensions the bolt. A sealing ring 10 is disposed adjacent the ring 9. In a modification, Fig. 2a, the wedge 7 coacts with a four-part expanding sleeve 8 having a flange 12 between which and the collar 6 is a spring 13. In a further form, Fig. 3c, the wedge 14 coacts with a radially movable element 15 held on the bolt by a member 16.
