[Also in Group XII] In a rotary tilting furnace or converter, the drum 3 is held between circular tilting plates 1, 2 resting on rollers 57, 58 in base frames 63, 64, said drum being held against horizontal movement by rollers 10, 11 mounted in the plates 1, 2 and engaging track rings 6, 7, and held against vertical movement by motor driven rollers 34 mounted in a lower stationary support and by pads 37 mounted in an upper removable support 32. The plates 1, 2 have rings of spur teeth 67, 68 driven by individual electric motors, Fig. 6 (not shown). The rollers 11 are mounted on journals 16 in bifurcated elements 19 such as are disclosed in Specification 883,168 pivotally mounted at 22 in the plates 1, 2 and interconnected by adjustable or telescopic links 27. The supports 32, 33 comprise box structures mounted between the plates 1 and 2, the former being held by a tension tube, Fig. 4 (not shown), incorporating tie rods and nut assemblies as disclosed in Specification 621,963 by which the tension is transmitted to the outer faces of the plates 1 and 2. The drum 3 is removed for relining on a carriage as disclosed in Specification 887,792 by tilting it into a vertical position, removing the support 32, and moving the drum from between the plates 1 and 2.
