A manually operable propulsion gear for installation centrally in a fore and aft direction in a small seacraft equipped with a propeller on a shaft extending in a fore and aft direction centrally through the hull at the stern of the craft comprises a coupling shaft 14 adapted to be aligned with and coupled to said propeller shaft, a driven member (a shaft 12 in Fig. 1 and a mitre wheel 24 in the embodiment of Fig. 6) drivingly connected with the coupling shaft 14 and a plurality of parallel driving shafts 7, 8, 9..disposed athwart the craft and each cranked at each end in opposite directions to form crank handles 10, 10a, one of said driving shafts (shaft 8) being drivingly. connected (b; chain and sprocket drives 11, 11a) with the o each other driving shaft with out-of-phas relationship of the crank handles of the shafts, and said driving shaft 8 also being drivingly connected with said driven member (via sprockets and chain 13 in Fig. 1 and via a shaft 21 in Fig. 6).
