891,128. Mine cages. RHYMNEY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., and PARSONS, G. W. July 8, 1959 [April 25, 1958], No. 13281/58. Class 78 (4). A mine cage 2 is fitted with a device for proving the position of a mine car 4 in it, and for giving a warning, or preventing movement of the cage, if the car is incorrectly positioned. In the form illustrated chocks 16 engage the sides of the wheels, instead of the rail 3, if the truck is wrongly positioned. The chocks are normally held against the rails 3 by a spring 18 acting through a rod 7 and a linkage 8, 13. The chocks are retracted, when the cage is at the decking level, by an arm 10 connected to the rod 11 and bearing a roller 12 which engages a hanging plate 21 pushed to the right in Fig. 2 when a ram 28 is operated to release the chocks. This action releases a limit switch 32 operated by a roller 31 bearing on the plate 21. The switch 32 is closed, indicating that the cage can be wound, only when the ram 28 is retracted and the chocks 16 have returned to their locking positions. The ram 28 acts on the plate 21 through an arm 25 and roller 26, and the normal position of the plate 21 may be altered by adjusting a balance weight 22. The chocks 16 may be replaced by feelers engaging the side of the car. The invention may be applied to cages having more than one deck.
