In a modification of the apparatus according to the parent Specification fur combing means 171 are mounted between apertured plates which partially overlap wire tufts 15, 16 and so minimise the tendency to bending of the tufts by the animals. The apertured plates are provided with inwardly bent sections 193 which overlap reinforcing 'corner' plates 194. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) the apparatus incorporates a horseshoe-shaped frame made from channel section. The tufts are mounted in arcuate blocks which are a push fit within the frame. Alternatively, the frame may be of channel section formed in two halves joined by a connecting piece. In all the embodiments the plates, or the frame, and the tufts are preferably of stainless steel.
