[Also in Group XXIX] A spool valve member 2, as described in Specification 692,642, for controlling an hydraulic ram or rams in a machine tool in response to movements of a stylus operating on a pattern carries a helically toothed wheel 3 coacting with a similar, fixed wheel 4 whereby angular movement imparted to the member 2 by the stylus (not shown) causes axial movement of the member to open and close the ports. The wheels 3, 4 may be segmental instead of circular. The wheel 4 is carried by a block 6 adjustable by screws 10 for setting the mesh of the wheels. Angular movement of the valve member is effected by a bar 12 which extends in opposite directions from the housing 9, is biased to a neutral position by adjustable spring loading, and is acted upon at opposite ends by solenoids under the control of the stylus.
