899,081. Motor vehicles. SHOTBOLT MACHINERY DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Sept. 15, 1960 [Sept. 23, 1959], No. 32398/59. Classes 79(3), 79(4) and 79(5). A vehicle comprises a conventional tractor having driven rear wheels and from which the steerable front wheel or wheels have been removed and, affixed to the rear thereof, a component comprising a frame upon which is mounted a steerable wheel or pair of wheels, the steering connections from the removed tractor front wheels being connected through a transmission to the rear component wheels. As shown, Fig. 3, the tractor T from which the front wheels have been removed, is connected to the rear component, a potato harvester, comprising the frame members 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, the members 20 and 25 being in a lower horizontal plane, the members 19 and 24 in an upper horizontal plane and the other members being either transverse or vertical. From an intermediate position along the length of the component, the lateral members slope inwardly and at the front they slope downwardly (Figs. 1 and 2). The lateral components are secured to brackets 28 which form part of the structure, the brackets having lateral flanges bolted to the tractor rear axle. The lateral frame members terminate in brackets 21 bolted to the tractor chassis frame. The tractor steering lever 11 is connected to a shaft 12 which transmits the steering movement through a lever 15 pivoted at U, shaft 13, levers 16, 17, tie rod 14 and lever 18 to the rear wheels 9. Because of the lever 15 the wheels 9 are turned in the opposite direction to that in which the normal front wheels of the tractor would be turned. The working components of the rear member of the vehicle are driven from the power take off shaft 73. Specification 899,080 is referred to.
