A device for fitting and removing the blades of shearing machines comprises two winches mounted on the machine above the seats for the blades, and on the lines of which the blade to be handled is suspended by eye brackets fitted to the blades. The Figure shows a blade 6 resting on support bars laid upon the roll 5 of a rolling train preceding the shear. Each winch comprises a rope pulley 8 driven by gears 9 and 10 from a hand crank-shaft 12. Two plates 14 with eyes are temporarily fitted to the blade 6 which is first drawn into the machine and then lowered on to the seat and secured by bolts 15.
