839,775. Dispensing liquids by gaseous pressure. SPARKLETS Ltd. April 11, 1958 [April 18, 1957], No. 12755/57. Class 102(2). [Also in Group XVIII] A metering valve assembly for an aerosol or like dispenser comprises a valve 26 controlling the passage of fluid from a discharge tube 16 and an outlet valve 42 with a central bore 43 communicating with the spray head 36, the measuring chamber being formed by an annular space between the lower end of valve 42 and an axial bore in a sleeve 18 in which valve 42 is slidable. Normally, as shown, valve 26 engages a seating formed at the lower end of the bore in sleeve 18 to cut off discharge tube 16, and valve 42 is held clear of the upper surface of valve 26 by a spring 41. Upon depressing the valve head against the force of this spring, the lower end of valve 42 first engages valve 26 to close bore 43, and then valve 26 is unseated to allow the contents of the container to pass from tube 16 to the space between valve 42 and the bore in sleeve 18. Upon releasing the valve head, valve 26 is first reseated to trap the predetermined volume of fluid in the annular space above it, and then valve 42 is unseated to open bore 43 and permit discharge of the trapped fluid. A modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), for use with the container in an inverted position is also described.
