A process for the production of synthetic rubber latex and synthetic rubber which are substantially free from heavy metals

Synthetic rubber latex free from heavy metals is obtained by adding to the aqueous latex containing heavy metal residues a strong base in an amount sufficient to produce a pH of 10,5 to 13,5 and then separating off the precipitate of heavy metal compound. The specified rubber is a 70 butadiene-30 styrene rubber while sodium and potassium hydroxide are specified strong bases. The rubber may be precipitated from the latex.
