919,733. Flameproof lamp enclosures. WALSALL CONDUITS Ltd. Oct. 6, 1961 [Oct. 6, 1960], No. 34238/60. Class 76 (4). [Also in Group XXVI] A flameproof enclosure for an electric lamp or other electrical apparatus comprises a body and a removable cover for an opening in the body, the body and cover having contiguous flat metal faces in at least one of which is a circumambient recess in which is an endless V-section member of resilient material having one arm of the V secured to the base of the recess, the other arm being adapted to engage the face of the other member and to be moved towards the first arm when the faces are in contiguity. A well glass fitting comprises a body 1, Fig. 1, supporting a lamp-holder 2 and a metal ring 5 in which the well glass is secured by cement 11 around a beaded edge 10. The body 1 and ring 5 have flat machined faces 7, 8, Fig. 4, which can be bolted together. The ring 5 has a recess 16 in which one arm 18 of a V-shaped sealing member 17 is secured by bolts 20 and washers 19. The free arm 21 is compressed into contact with the face 7 when the faces 7, 8 are brought into engagement. The arm 21 is preferably shorter than the arm 18 so that its end is not caught between the faces 7, 8 when these are brought together.
