Apparatus for manufacturing chipboard from materials such as prepared wood chips mixed with synthetic resin binder is characterized by a closed rectangular conveyer system 3, 4, 5, 6 for conducting supporting metal plates from a charging station to a compacting press 7 and returning them to the charging station, to which system the plates are fed by a conveyer 2, extending as a straight-line elongation of return conveyer 6, and on which the plates are movable to and fro beneath two charging machines 1 for the material to be heaped thereon in a plurality of layers. Production may be economically increased by addition of a second press 11 the existing return conveyer 6 and charging machines 1 being used. Increase in production may also be achieved by substituting multilayer press 12 for single layer press 7. Second press 11 may also be a multilayer press. With two presses different sizes of chipboard may be simultaneously produced.
