931,830. Editing sound-tracks. INSTANT SYNCHRONIZATION CORPORATION. Jan. 5, 1960 [Jan. 8, 1959], No. 330/60. Class 40 (2). An original sound-track 1 is synchronously dubbed on to a tape 3, shown as a magnetic tape and the commencements of successive phrases are entered as holes 9 inserted by using a sound reader 7 and a punch 12. An artist, guided by playback means 17, 18 records new sound on a separate track on the same or a separate tape, the sound or hand-switching means releasing brake means 16 and the tape(s) running until the start of the next phrase is detected by means 14, whereupon the tape is again halted. The edited phrases are then dubbed on to the final track 2. Other sound effects, not on the original track may be similarly added on an incremental basis. For kinematographic sound-editing, Fig. 12, a print 75 of the picture-film is provided with holes 91, punched to correspond with the holes 9 in the tape 3 and the artist can view the accompanying action at 56. A disc-record gramophone variant, Fig. 7, uses a pick-up of usual type to detect mutilations in a record groove made by a hand punch in a control track corresponding to the holes 9, 91.
