A clothes airer comprises sets 11, 12 of article-supporting rods mounted on members 4 for pivotal movement from an out-of-use, dependent position to an article-supporting position in which the rods of each set are supported by the member 4 on which the other set of rods is mounted. The members 4 may form part of a bracket secured to a wall or ceiling or, as shown, are rotatably mounted in a trestle 1 and the rods 11, 12 are fixedly secured to their associated member 4 and move in a set. The legs 5 of the trestle are pivoted at 8 on hinge plates 7 which have flanges 9 to limit the spread of the legs. In a modification, abutting faces on the legs 5 above the hinge connection limit the spread. Heating means may be arranged beneath the airer.
