939,549. Thermal switches. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. Feb. 15, 1960 [April 9, 1959], No. 5303/60. Class 38 (5). An electric iron has a thermostat control cam 37 and connections and leads associated therewith accommodated in a cavity in the rear part of the handle 27 of the iron. A bimetal strip 6 anchored to a lug 21 on the sole-plate 3 presses on a flexible blade 4 fixed to a rigid lever 11 which carries a moving contact 13 for cooperation with a fixed contact 5. A spring blade 8 supports lever 11 and urges the contact 13 towards contact 5 while another spring blade 9 holds the opposite end of lever 11 against the cam 7 of control 37. Blades 8 and 9 are secured to the handle by a screw 30 which also acts as terminal for one supply lead 31 while the other lead 32 is connected to heating element 19. A screw 16 provides a preset adjustment of the switch and is accessible through holes 16a and 16b in the handle 27 and strip 8, respectively. The control 37 is journalled between lugs on the handle 27 and cover 40 (Fig. 4, not shown). The supply leads enter the handle near the screw 30 (Figs. 6 to 10, not shown).
