939,553. Universal joints &c. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV - UND MASCHINENFABRIK. Jan. 18, 1961 [Feb. 8, 1960], No. 2098/61. Class 80 (2). Shafts 1, 2 in a ship are resiliently coupled by two sets of rubber elements 5a, 5b secured at one end to alternate shaft members 3, 4 and at the other to the same side of a floating ring 6, to transmit torque in two series sets in shear without axially loading the shafts. For higher torque loadings the ring 6 may be connected via one row of axially adjacent pairs of rubbers on one flange located inside or outside two radially adjacent rows on the other flange (Fig. 5, not shown), or two rings 6, situated one each side of the joint, are coupled by a common row of axially adjacent rubbers and connected to each flange by two radial rows of rubbers (Fig. 7, not shown), there being stops provided (Fig. 6, not shown), to prevent excessive rotary movement between the coupling flanges.
