941,248. Punching. C. BEHRENS A.G. Sept. 12, 1961 [March 10, 1961], No. 32634/61. Heading B3W. An automatic station selector for a multiple punch press is characterized in that the tool plates are rotatable under the control of electric switches by mechanical indexing means operated by a power drive and controllable by a selector in such manner that any desired station can be indexed into working position without the observance of any prescribed indexing sequence, the indexed tool plates being relatively lockable by pins and bushings. The main C-type frame of the press contains a punch plate 127 rotatable about a pin 20 and a die plate 126 rotatable about a pin 125. The tool 14 at the front of the gap is operated by a ram 8 from a toggle mechanism 9. The station selector mechanism comprises a selector lever 100 pivotally mounted on a selector disc 101 in which is a spring-loaded pin 102. Below the disc 101 is a selector plate 103 in which are holes corresponding with the positions of the tools in the rotatable plate 127. Each hole contains a pin 104 which can be depressed against a spring, to operate a switch segment 105 or 106 which selects either right or left hand rotation of the plate so that the desired station is reached by the shortest route. The selector plate 103 is connected by gearing to the plate 126 and rotates in synchronism therewith. To bring the required station to the working position the selector disc 101 is rotated until the pin 102 can be depressed into the hole in the selector plate corresponding to the desired station. This action causes one of the pins 104 to operate either the segment 105 or 106 which operates a switch in the circuit of an electric motor which drives the plates 126 and 127 through gearing 119, 120, in the desired direction. Simultaneously the segment operates a switch which energizes solenoids 111 and withdraws the locking pins 113 and 114 from their respective bushes 130 and 136, this action operating switches 116 which start the plate driving motor. The rotation of the plate is stopped by a collar on the appropriate pin 104 which actuates switch 128 in the motor circuit and transfers it to a switch 129, which is opened when a locking bushing 130 in the upper plate strikes a bellcrank lever 131, thus stopping the motor. In this position the bottom end of pin 104 actuates switch 132 which de-energizes the solenoids 111 and allows the pins 113 and 114 to return to the locking position. Switch members 115 at the ends of the locking pins re-close the switches 134. Specifications 941,246 and 941,247 are referred to.
