A non-linear circuit comprises the series combination of an emitter resistor 3, the emitter-collector path of a transistor and a collector resistor 1, the signal being applied at 4, 5 across the series combination and also to the base of the transistor so that the output (e.g. at 6, 7) across a portion of the series combination is a non-linear function of the input. The circuit shown, which produces a fractional power law due to exponential operation of the transistor, is intended for use as a gamma corrector in a television system, the amount of correction depending on the tapping on the potentiometer 9.
