898,391. Regulating; starting fuel-injection engines. C.A.V. Ltd. May 30, 1960 [June 11, 1959], No. 20000/59. Classes 7(3) and 7(6). The maximum delivery stop dSP1/SP of a fuel injection pump is adjusted according to the density of the fuel and is automatically set to an excess delivery position for starting when the engine is at rest. In Fig. 1 the stop dSP1/SP is carried by a rod gSP1/SP attached to a spring-loaded cup bSP1/SP into which the fuel is delivered by a pipe hSP1/SP, the cup positioning the wedge-shaped stop dSP1/SP in accordance with fuel density to limit the control rod fSP1/SP to a lower or higher maximum. When the engine stops, the fuel drains from the cup through a hole iSP1/SP whereby the stop dSP1/SP is lifted to a starting position in which the rod fSP1/SP can move to an excess supply position defined by a shoulder at the bottom of the member dSP1/SP. In a modification the member dSP1/SP is provided with a stepped surface instead of a wedge and a dashpot is attached to the cup bSP1/SP. In Fig. 3 the cup is replaced by a float oSP3/SP situated in a fuel chamber having an overflow jSP3/SP with a small restriction rSP3/SP which allows the chamber to empty when the engine stops. A dashpot mSP3/SP is attached to the lower end of the stop dSP3/SP.
