1,019,977. Making boxes. J. BOBST, and FILS S.A. April 30, 1963 [May 1, 1962], No. 17052/63. Heading B5D. Pairs of conveyers 36, 42 and 47, 46 mounted on opposite sides of platens 33, 34 held on beams 29, 30, 31, 32 joining vertical joist plates pass centrally around coaxially mounted rollers 40, 43 and hold down flaps of a cardboard blank whilst adjacent flaps are folded. The lower belts 36, 47 pass around motor-driven drums 39, 51 over stretching rollers 37, 50 and guide rollers 38. The motor-driven drum 39 is mounted on the platen 34 (Fig. 13, not shown) by a screw holding a sectional sleeve 57 in which an inner barrel rolls on a ball bearing 58. The central coaxial drums 40, 40SP1/SP (Fig. 12, not shown) are mounted on the platen 34 by a screw retaining a section 53 in which an inner barrel of the drum 40SP1/SP surrounding a pivot 55 of the drum 40 rotates on ball bearings 54. The upper pressing belts 42, 46 pass over stretching rollers 44, 48 and under guiding and pressing rollers 45. The pressing rollers 45 are suspended in pairs (Fig. 14, not shown) by an elastic foil 75 suspended from a piston acting against a spring 77 on a beam 74. The platens 33, 34 and conveying means are mounted on transverse beams 29-32 and may be moved transversely to accommodate different box sizes. Galle chains 60, 61, 62 (Figs. 8 and 10, not shown) pass along longitudinal grooves in the transverse beams 29-32 and coupling wheels 66, 67 cause the upper and lower chains 61, 62 to move in the same direction in the grooves and move the conveying assemblies when coupled thereto by pins 69, 70, 71, 72. Flaps adjacent those held in position by the conveyer belts are folded by means 73 (Fig. 8, not shown) supported by cross-bars 21-28. The apparatus may be supported in a cradle 78 (Fig. 16, not shown) to which is attached a feeding device 81. The assembly is reversible longitudinally.
