Geodesic structures comprise a plurality of members e.g. 1a, Fig. 5, joined together in a pattern comprising hexagons and pentagons, the members being secured together by tension elements e.g. 15, Fig. 3, disposed around areas defined by edges 8 of the members. The edges 8 are flanged for engagement by the tension elements. In a modification, the tension elements may be in the form of flanged "manhole covers" 18 which may be transparent, translucent or opaque. The members 1a may be formed of concrete, which may be prestressed, lightweight concrete, plastic resin or sheet metal, or they may be formed from three identical sub-components 29, Fig. 11 which may be connected together by grouting, or by other means, Fig. 16 (not shown) whereby a variety of forms and sizes of main component may be produced. An alternative member 2 shaped as in Fig. 10 is used in the geodesic framework assembly of Fig. 4 in which a plurality of such members are held together by tension elements 20 accommodated in grouting troughs in the members 2. The framework may be covered by a reinforced monolithic concrete shell 25. A sheet metal sub-component is described, Figs. 14, 15 and 16 (not shown) suitable for production of the two kinds of members suitable for the kinds of structures shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
