A sprinkler head of the type in which a water outlet bore is closed by a valve member supported by a fusible strut which releases the valve member on a rise in ambient air temperature, includes in conjunction with the valve member a sealing member of synthetic thermoplastic material, e.g. polythene, polyvinyl chloride, nylon, polytetrafluoroethylene &c. The bore 4 is closed by a boss 12 projecting from a valve member 10 and the sealing member 6 is held in position by a washer 8 which, through a spring washer 9, bears on a shoulder 13 of the valve member 10. The closure means is held in position by a fusible strut 11 arranged between the valve member 10 and yoke arms 2. A rise in ambient temperature will operate the fusible strut 11, whereon the water pressure in the bore will force out the valve assembly, the ejection being facilitated by a slight divergence 5 at the outlet of the bore. As the sealing member 6 is made of a synthetic plastic it is possible for the force on the fusible strut 11 to be reduced.
