FORM:0953746/C3/1 An upright door of a horizontal coke-oven installation comprises vertically spaced bearings in which are pivoted support levers extending downwardly away from the door to engage in hooks on the oven body when the door is fitted thereto so that the weight of the door urges its sealing frame against a sealing surface on the oven door frame, at least one of the bearings being upwardly-slidable and being pressed downwards with respect to the door by a spring to increase the door contact pressure with the frame but being movable upwards against the force of the spring by a lift-off claw of a doorlifting mechanism which can be applied to the door to remove it from the oven. Figs. 1 and 2 show the door body 2 inside the retaining frame 3 projecting into the oven chamber 1, and mounted on the metal part 4 of the door are the crankshaft-like support levers 13 which engage by the arms 14 in the bolt hooks 10 and 11 connected rigidly to the oven body 9. The lower support lever is mounted in a two-part bearing 12 which is rigidly provided on the door body 4, whereas the bearing 15 on which the upper support lever is similarly mounted is slidable vertically between the strips 16. The extent of the movement is restricted by a bottom limiting stop 17, and a compression spring 21 mounted between a horizontal strip 18 of the door body and a projecting strip 19 of the support lever bearing 15 by means of bolt 20. The door lifting machine 22 is provided with a double lever 23 and a single lever 26 having claws 27 and 28 which engage under the support lever bearing 15 and the strip 30, respectively. The two levers 23 and 26 are connected together by a coupling rod 31 through an angle lever 32 pivotally connected to the lever 26 at 33. The bottom lever arm of the angle lever 32 is connected by an arm 34 to the claw mounted slidably at the end of 26 thus on lifting the coupling rod 31 the claw 28 is moved in the direction of the door, thus aiding the removal and replacement of the door. Tall coke-oven doors may be provided with more than two support levers, the bottom support lever bearing being fixed and the others thereabove being slidable.
