959,635. Gear-cutting. W. FERD KLINGELNBERG SOHNE G.m.b.H. March 26, 1962 [March 25, 1961], No. 11430/62. Heading B3K. Spiral bevel gears having cycloidally curved teeth are roughed and finished by a single cutter block, the roughing and finishing blades coming into action successively. Blades 1-6, Figs. 1, 2, constitute a blade group, 1 being an inside roughing blade, 2 an inside finishing blade, 3 and 4 centre cutting blades, 5 an outside roughing blade, and 6 an outside finishing blade. In the roughing position, Figs. 1, 2, cycloidal paths 2SP1/SP, 6SP1/SP, followed by finishing blades 2, 6, are inside the roughing paths 11, 5SP1/SP, and therefore do not cut. On completion of the roughing cut, which may be a plunge feed, angle # 1 between blades 1 and 2, is reduced, and angle # 111 between blades 5 and 6, is increased, the gear being cut is rotated through an angle α relative to the cutter, and blades 2, 6 take finishing cuts. Blades 1, 6 may be pivoted relative to blades 2-5, or vice versa, and the two sets of blades may be mounted on separate rotatable plates on the cutter block. In a modification, angles # 1 remain constant and the sweep radii of the blades vary. In a further modification, the sweep radii remain constant but the axes of these radii are varied. Specification 759,501 is referred to.
