965,653. Handling bulk cargo. FAIREY ENGINEERING Ltd. Dec. 15, 1960 [Sept. 15, 1959], No. 31434/59. Heading B7A. [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] A marine tanker has a hull 12 divided into compartments A1 . . . A11 by bulwarks 15, each compartment being divided by partitions 13, 14 into three sections. Liquid cargo is supplied by port and starboard pipes 16, 17 to compartments A1 . . . A5 and by similar pipes 17, 19 to compartments A6 . . . A11, the pipes being joined at junctions 20 which are controlled by stop valves 21. Pipes 24 extend between the pipes 16, 18 and 17, 19 across the compartments and have branches 25, 26, 27 leading to the sections. Stop valves 22, 29, 30 are provided to control the flow to each section and are actuated by hydraulic jacks 31 (see Division F1) remotely controlled by servovalves 32, the stop-valves being movable to open, closed, or intermediate positions. The servo-valves 32, and stop-cocks 74 for locking the jacks in adjusted positions, are disposed in a control room 76 remote from the jacks and stop valves, a pump 71, accumulator 70, intensifier 75 and reservoir 73 for supplying fluid pressure to the jacks being housed in a pump room 77 aft of the control room. Level indicators associated with each section are provided in the control room.
