969,551. Disc brakes. MASCHINENFABRIK HASENCLEVER A.G. Jan. 25, 1962 [Feb. 8, 1961], No. 2907/62. Heading F2E. [Also in Division B5] A fly press or fly hammer having a screw 1 which when rotated causes vertical movement of a ram 9, is braked by mechanism comprising a disc 5 secured by a hub 4 to the screw shaft 2, a series of pads arranged in peripherally spaced apertures in the disc to be gripped between a flange on the ram 9 and a movable back plate 7, and actuating mechanism for the back plate comprising an annular piston 11 mounted in an annular recess in the ram 9 and connected to the back plate by tie rods 20, piles of plate springs 18 being arranged to act on the piston to normally maintain the brake applied. The piston has a depending flange 15 and is sealed by rings 12, 14. A cover plate 13 bolted to the ram forms a pressure space 27 to which pressure fluid is supplied during operation of the press or hammer to release the brake. A cover 25 prevents oil reaching the pads 6.
