973,954. Electric selective signalling systems. R. SCOTT. March 19,1963 [March 22,1962], No. 10949/62. Heading G4H. In a system for measuring the pressure in a selected reaction flask 20, Fig. 1, each flask (only one being shown in the Fig.) is connected by a flexible tube 21 to one side of a diaphragm 54, Fig. 4, the other sides of the diaphragms being connected to a common manifold 11, Fig. 1, and the pressure in the selected flask is determined by lowering (or raising) the pressure in the manifold from a reference level to such a level that the pressure in the flask is just balanced by the pressure in the manifold, this being detected by the opening (or closing) of two contacts 58, Fig. 4, on the diaphragm, and the change in pressure in the manifold required to achieve balance being determined by counting clock-pulses for the period for which a synchronous motor 15, Fig. 1, has to drive a bellows 42, Fig. 3, via a clutch 16, to effect the necessary change in pressure in the manifold. The reference pressure in the manifold is determined by driving the pressure varying motor 15 until the pressure in a reference flask is just balanced. A block diagram (Fig. 6 not shown) is described in which clock-pulses derived from the A.C. mains are counted for the period for which the pressure varying motor is on and the result for each flask is printed. The actual time when the measurement is made is also printed.
