A charger or clip for loading automatic weapons comprises a framework 1, 2 from which depends means to suspend rounds of ammunition in parallel vertical rows, each row comprising two or more cartridges. The tip 21 of each projectile is secured by gripping members 7, 8, the member 7 being rigidly supported by the beam 6 of framework 1 and the member 8 being pivoted on a rod 16, both members 7 and 8 being recessed to match the profile of the projectile. Each member 8 of the clip is connected to a transversely arranged bar 20, which, when reciprocated, moves the members 8 into or out; of engagement with the projectiles. A handle 24 connected by linkage 25, 28 to bar 20 is used to bring the members 8 to the support position. An arm 30 depending from link 28 carries abutment means 31 which, when brought against; a co-operating surface in a magazine causes link 28 to be pushed upwards and bring about release of the cartridges. Rear abutment means for each row of cartridges comprise bars 11 mounted on horizontal pivots 35, each bar II having at its lower end a member 13 to engage the extractor rim of the lowermost cartridge. Each bar has an extension 36 eccentrically pivoted on a rotatable shaft 41 to which is attached a control lever 43. By actuating a lever 45 pivoted on lever 43, the shaft 41 is rotated to swing the bars 11 away from the cartridges as the clip is lowered towards the magazine. Lover 45 carries an abutment 49 which contacts a surface 50 on the framework when the bars 11 are in their operative positions.
