A level indicator for a hopper 1 includes a cable 2 weighted at 5 and carried at 3 by the inlet 4 of the hopper. The cable 2 carries pivoted members 8 each of which is spring loaded and actuates a mercury switch so that when the material in the hopper rises as far as the respective bar 8 the bar pivots clockwise to the horizontal position and actuates the switch to switch on a red indicator light.
