A sewing machine needle holder, fixed to a needle bar, carries a screw adapted to force a needle-securing member against the shank of a needle received in a groove provided longitudinally in the central part of the needle bar, the needle holder also being formed with an inwardly-directed groove, the lower end of which opens into the needle bar-receiving bore, and a member fixed in the groove having at its lower end at least one lateral projection adapted to guide the needle thread into the groove. A needle holder 1, secured by a screw 4 to a tubular needle bar 2, carries a screw 17 adapted to force a member 16 against a needle shank 10 received in a longitudinal groove 9 formed in a block 8 secured within the bore 3 of the needle bar by a transverse pin against which shank 10 abuts. Shank 10 carries two needles 11. Holder 1 is formed with an external, longitudinal, inwardly-directed groove 23, the lower end of which enters bore 3. A plate member 25, fixed in groove by rivetedover portions 26, is formed at its lower end with a pair of lateral projections 27 loosely received within notches 28 formed in the lower edge of holder 1. The respective edges of member 25 are formed with notches 29 at the inner ends of the projections 27. A thread 34 or 34a may be drawn over a respective projection 27 to enter the groove 23 by the associated notch 29. The lower edge of member 25 positions the thread adjacent the needle. In a modification member 25 is made from wire.
