1,001,936. Regulating. BURMEISTER & WAINS MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYGGERI A.S. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 23, 1962], No. 31268/64. Heading F1B. [Also in Divisions F2 and G3] A clutch and engine speed control for a marine vessel comprises a manual control lever 19 which supplies pressure liquid to, or acts through a fluid column on a piston 31 to move the latter up for clutch disengagement and down to increase engine speed. Downward movement of the piston 31 and an integral rod 32 acts directly on the engine speed governor spindle 33, upward movement of which is limited by a manually adjustable stop 73. Upward movement of the piston 31 moves a valve spool 34 up to cut the supply of pressure liquid from a main supply line 21 through lines 40, 62, 64 to a clutch engaging fluid motor 65, whereupon the motor 65 is exhausted at 68 and the clutch disengaged by a spring 69. The valve spool 34 is held in the clutch engaged or disengaged position by a spring pressed detent 60. Clockwise as anticlockwise movement of the lever 19 rotates a valve 17 to selectively supply pressure liquid to lines 26, 27 for clutch disengagement and increased engine speed respectively and also rotates a cam 15 which acts through a rod 13 to rock a lever 12 and adjust the compression of a spring 9 acting on a pressure regulator valve 22. The cam is shaped so that on anticlockwise movement it causes a progressive increase in the liquid pressure applied to the line 27 for a progressive increase in engine speed, whilst clockwise movement produces an initial large increase in liquid pressure which thereafter remains constant. As shown the pressure liquid supplied to the lines 26, 27 acts on a spring governed servo-control piston 46 to move the latter up or down, which movement acts through a link 50 to move a valve spool 41 down or up whereupon pressure liquid from the line 40 is supplied through ducts 37, 36 below or above the piston 31 to move the latter up or down. Since the link 50 is pivoted to the rod 32 movement of the latter moves the valve spool 41 and the movement of the piston 31 and rod 32 continues until the valve spool 41 is returned to the position shown. In Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) the engine speed control and clutch disengaging pressures supplied from the manual control valve act directly above and below the operating piston, the rod of which is integral with the clutch disengaging valve spool. The detent 60 is also replaced by a magnetic detent. Specification 969,426 is referred to.
