The body member 1 of a butterfly valve is provided with a resiliently deformable facing by a moulding operation in which the facing material, e.g. a body of uncured rubber, is introduced into a cavity defined by the body member, two movable compression plates 7, 8 and a core 4. Diametrically opposed plugs 15 extend through the body member 1 and the core 4 to define pivot receiving holes in the facing.
