A poultry nest box has individual laying units for each bird which can be separately removed for cleaning, each unit comprising a tray 4 slidably mounted on the floor 15 of a compartment 1 and an apertured mat 6 of rubber or like material. On being laid, eggs pass through the aperture 7 and roll to the front of the tray which has a cover 10 provided with a locking bar 11 engageable in a slot 12 in a perch 9 for holding the cover in a raised position while the eggs are collected. A plastic or rubbercovered spring wire buffer 8 is provided at the foot of the tray.
