In a device for removing corrosive or condensable gases from a vacuum measuring gauge 10, a throttle 7 is inserted between the gauge and a vacuum vessel 1, and a supply of an inert protecting gas is fed via an inlet pipe 13 to the side of the throttle adjacent the gauge to protect the gauge from the effects of the gases in the vessel 1. In an alternative embodiment the feed pipe for the inert gas passes into the throttle.
