Pneumatic device for holding inactive yarns in a circular knitting machine

A four feed circular knitting machine comprises a yarn holding device which includes a suction tube 13 located between the cut off position and the main feed position is a cover element 8. The cover element comprises a plate 8 of relatively large area which extends circumferentially from the cut off position around to the feed rotation furthest removed therefrom. The suction tube 13 is located in the cover element 8 at a position in the immediate vicinity of the cut off position V and is operated during the working periods of the machine. An electrically heated wire 32 serves to sever the main yarn and a second heated wire at VI serves to sever the reinforcing yarn and is movable radially of the needle cylinder. The suction tube clamps the yarn and removes waste ends after severing. When a main yarn 24 is taken out of operation it passes into a space to between the plate 8 and the dial cap 2 and in the space 10 it is guided by pins 11 to the suction tube 13. The introduction of the yarn to the space 10 is facilitated by the provision of toothed segments 12 on the plate 8. The dial cap, cam ring and dial may be replaced by a cone 38 arranged in coaxially the needle cylinder, Fig. 8 (not shown).
