Triphenyl tin sulphides of formula (C6H5)3Sn.Sx.Sn(C6H5)3 where x is 1 to 4 are made by reacting a compound of formula (C6H5)3Sn.X where X is an inorganic or organic acid radical with a sulphide, disulphide or polysulphide of an alkali or alkaline earth metal or ammonium. The chloride and acetate are preferred. The invention also comprises as new compounds bis(triphenyl tin) polysulphides of the above formula where x is 2, 3 or 4. They may be used for combating moulds on living plants (see Group VI).ALSO:Compositions for combating live moulds on plants contain as active ingredient, a triphenyltin compound of formula FORM:0902560/VI/1 where x is 1 to 4, and if desired adjuvants such as surface-active substances, dispersion agents and/or adhesives. The composition may be a dust, containing finely powdered kieselguhr or dolomite, a wettable powder containing a wetting agent such as a fatty alcohol sulphate or an alkylaryl sulphonate and an inert carrier such as kaolin, chalk, pipeclay or colloidal silicic acid, a liquid concentrate containing an emulsifying agent and a solvent such as cyclohexanone, or a seed disinfectant containing a carrier and an adhesive.
