In a ground-controlled missile (11) housing electric conductor wire wound on a cylindrical former and an auxiliary winding as in Specification 1,020,867, the auxiliary winding is wound on an annular support which is attached to the rear end of the former. The aluminium former has outwardly directed circular flanges at each end to retain the main winding (15). The rear flange (14) may have a rearwardly directed frusto-conical extension (19) with a stepped outer surface to receive the auxiliary winding 20, the winding being secured by a coating of adhesive, such as an epoxy resin to which a covering of tissue paper may be bonded. In a second embodiment, the auxiliary winding 36 is in the form of a flat helix secured to a ring 35 by cotton thread passed through holes 37, 38. The ring 35 is bolted to the rear flange 31 of the cylindrical former 30. When the wire 40 is tensioned after firing of the missile, the thread ruptures and the wire from the winding 36 is payed out.
