摘要
Additives for mineral or synthetic lubricating oils or for lubricating greases contain an oleophilic hydrocarbon chain and at least two polar groups and are obtained by reacting an olefine polymer which carries as substituents at least two succinic acid groups, succinic anhydride groups or succinic halide groups, with a polyhydric alcohol. The polymer containing the succinic substituents may be obtained by reacting a chlorinated ethylene-propylene copolymer with maleic anhydride, or an isobutene-isoprene copolymer may be reacted with maleic anhydride. The polyhydric alcohol preferably has at least three hydroxyl groups. Other additives such as antioxidants, detergent additives, viscosity index improvers, anticorrosives, anti-fouling agents, pour-point reducers and oiliness agents may be added to the lubricating oils. In the example the additive consisting of the reaction product of chlorinated ethylene-propylene rubber treated with maleic anhydride and then with pentaerythritol is tested in diesel and gasoline engines using as the base oil a solvent-refined paraffinic lubricating oil distillate.ALSO:Ashless lubricating additives containing an oleophilic hydrocarbon chain and at least two polar groups are obtained by reacting a polyolefine which carries as substituents at least two succinic acid groups, succinic anhydride groups or succinic halide groups, with a polyhydric alcohol. The polyhydric alcohol preferably has at least 3 hydroxyl groups and the preferred ones are pentaerythritol and mannitol. To obtain a polymer carrying the desired succinic substituents the starting material may either be a homo- or copolymer in which active functions are present which render a reaction with maleic acid, anhydride or halide possible in such a way that a polyolefine is formed with the desired succinic groups, e.g. a chlorinated ethylene-propylene copolymer may be reacted with maleic anhydride or an isobutene-isoprene copolymer may be reacted with maleic anhydride. The esterification reaction with the polyhydric alcohol is preferably carried out at 100 DEG to 250 DEG C. In the example, a chlorinated ethylene-propylene rubber is treated with maleic acid and then reacted with pentaerythritol.
